The first time I was out driving after dark, I noticed the headlights were basically useless. Looking more closely, they were definitely past due for replacement; one even had the gasket between the lens and reflector hanging down in front of the bulb.
So I did what any self-respecting European car owner does when their headlights are shot: got a set of Hella's. Pelican Parts made it super simple with a kit that included wiring adapters that plugged into the wiring harness jack, the only down side was the high beams worked exactly once. Turns out I needed to replace the stock (and original-looking) high beam fuses with higher rated ones.
Bonus tip: You can tear off the top of the boxes and set them under the bulbs to avoid scratching the bumper (see Fig. 3).
